Antique Victorian 9ct Gold Agate Mourning Brooch c1880s This brooch features unusual, lemon coloured, banded Agate which is transparent and very attractive. It is set in 9ct yellow gold (acid tested) with scrolling frame work and hand engraved details. In the centre is a compartment containing very tightly woven hair under glass, which actually just looks like a brown stone. This piece has been very well loved! It has some damage including damage to 2 of the claws and a chip to the glass over the hair work (please refer to the photos). I also think that a hoop to convert the piece to a pendant has been added at a later date. The piece is very beautiful and properly functional, however, given the wear and tear over the 100 plus years, we have reduced the price considerably.
