RARE ANTIQUE DOUBLE HEADED CAMEO BROOCH WITH VALUATION
RARE ANTIQUE DOUBLE HEADED CAMEO BROOCH WITH VALUATION
Unique Antique Cameo Brooch with Double Headed Figure
This rare Cameo depicts a Roman figure with another face on the back of their head. It is thought to be a depiction of Minerva and her father the god Jupiter (Athena in Greek and her father the Greek god Zeus). The legend goes that Minerva was born out of the head of her father and she is the goddess of wisdom. I’ve done some research and I can’t find anything like this for sale.
It is hand carved in natural shell and measures approximately 44mm x 39mm. The gold frame is 14ct gold and has some tiny nibbles on one side (nothing major and in keeping with its age, please refer to the photos). The pin and hinge are in good condition with a ‘c’ clasp. It was purchased in the UK and I have not cleaned off the patina, so it is in original condition.
The piece comes with an independent valuation certificate with a Retail Replacement Value of $2,320.
It will be sent in a gift box via Express mail for free within Australia. We offer a 7 day money back guarantee (terms and conditions are on our About Page).
