The garnets were mined in Czechoslovakia which was then known as Bohemia and the area was renowned for producing these 'blood red' Garnets which were highly prized by Victorian women.
The brooch is in excellent antique condition. The hook and pin are undamaged and the garnets are all well set.
The piece measures approximately 4cms long and 2.5cms wide.
Bohemian garnet jewellery date back to the 19th century. During this time, garnets were one of the most popular types of stones used in jewellery production. Most often, bohemian garnet jewellery was set in a closed back setting made of rose gold gilt over silver; this method is sometimes referred to as 'garnet gold'.
