ANTIQUE VICTORIAN STERLING SILVER BROOCH NAMED NELLY CIRCA 1900
A Lovely Example of Victorian Silver Jewellery
This Victorian sterling silver brooch is hand carved with the name Nelly. Circa 1900, there are no hallmarks but thought to be made in Birmingham. It is a classic ‘brick and ball’ design with a raise profile. The brooch, hook and pin are in excellent condition and it is a good size measuring approximately 4cms in diametre.
It is reputed that these name pins were first worn by the servants in England's large country houses. The pins quickly became a popular form of sweetheart brooch for the sentimental Victorians. The popularity of the brooches continued through the Edwardian period into the 1920's.
