Vintage Cameo Brooch Circa late 1800s

This antique Cameo depicts a Roman male figure that is hand carved in natural shell. He wears a Roman wreath on his head and displays finely carved locks of hair and meticulously carved. It is a large piece measuring approximately 65mm x 55mm and the cameo is able to spin freely around, probably because it was a mourning brooch with possibly a plait of hair in the back at some stage. It was purchased in the UK.

The gold frame is 14ct gold and is in very good condition in keeping with its age. It has a strong pin, ‘c’ clasp and a safety chain.
