A lovely vintage Coral necklace displaying dark red to medium red tones C1950s.

The necklace features 16 uniform beads at the front which then graduate to alternating large and small beads (see photos).

It's approximately 80cms long and just slips over the head.

Interestingly, Coral jewellery has been worn since the 17th century but became more popular during the Regency and late Georgian Era (1760 - 1837). Coral necklaces were thought to protect the wearer. There was a tradition of giving children coral necklaces to protect them. Eventually coral became worn most for its stunning colour and natural beauty.
