EDWARDIAN ANTIQUE SILVER FOB CHAIN WITH COWRA MEDALLION FOR CALEDONIAN SOCIETY
EDWARDIAN ANTIQUE SILVER FOB CHAIN WITH COWRA MEDALLION FOR CALEDONIAN SOCIETY
This is a Unique Piece of Australian History
This medallion was commissioned by the Calendonian Society of Cowra in the early 1900’s and it has quite an interesting history. With so many immigrants coming from Scotland in the late 1800’s, the Caledonian Society was established as a social gathering and to uphold and honour the traditions and culture of the country of their birth.
With many young men being lost to Boer War, Angus and Coote was commissioned to produce a commemorative medal depicting a wreath and the Scottish Thistle. The medallion is attached to a sterling silver fob chain that is hallmarked 1903 and makers mark H.P. Each link in the chain is individually stamped with the lion for sterling. It really is a lovely thing.
The piece weighs approximately 29.50 grams and it is in excellent condition. The chain measures approx 38cms and the medal measures 3cms x 3.5cms at the widest point.
It is a wonderful piece of Australian history.
